I am convinced that the configuration Digi recommends above (FW800 port -> FW800 Drive -> Out FW400 port on Drive -> Pro Tools LE FireWire audio interface) wont work. I'm going to try keeping the firewire 800 connected to the Media Drive as that seems to make sense but I really don't think it matters that much. So call digi (Avid now) and return your Mobx for repair. I have more testing to do over the weekend but so far it looks bullet proof. If your MBox 2 Pro isn’t lit up with all the pretty green lights, this means it’s your firewire inside the MBox is bad. just happened to have one around and plugged the audio interface into it and everything worked.

That can record, except i have to deal with the output setting on the axe fx, along with the input gain setting on the pro tools mbox. So then I remembered this little bit if information. An idea i had today was to connect a trs cable on the unbalanced output 1 of my axe fx, into a line in cable on my pro tools mbox. When I put all of this together all I managed were hours of Audio buffer underflow -6085 errors. “The FireWire 800 port on these computers is backwards compatible* with FireWire 400 devices, but requires one of the following configuration options:įW800 port -> FW800 Drive (912 or 924 chipset) -> Out FW400 port on Drive -> Pro Tools LE FireWire audio interface” My Media Drive is WD My Book Studio 750GB 7200 RPM with an Oxford 934 Chipset (not fully qualified but not really forbidden either).Īs Per Digi’s recommendation I used the 800 connection between the drive and the laptop and then it was daisy chained with a 800/400 cable to the MBox. I have all of the Factory Pack 2 plugins updated for OS X 10.5.x. Add to that an MBox 2 Pro running with ProTools 7.4.2. Maybe NAMM will bring something like this.I have a shiny new MacBook Pro 2.44GHz with 4GB of Ram and a 250GB 7200RPM Drive Running OS X 10.5.6.

I wish control surface/interface combos were more popular.

Would it be an upgrade in sound quality? I really need the outputs for my outboard gear, so if it's about the same, I think I'll pull the trigger. What if the firewire port breaks? I'd be screwed. The only thing I'm worried about is the age. I would be getting more mic inputs, and a control surface that links directly to the hardware inputs and outputs, something my Mackie doesn't quite do. So I searched ebay and found the DIGI 003 console version, which I could afford if I sold my Mackie Control surface and firestudio if I had to. Mainly outputs.Īnyways, the newer interfaces out there don't really have what I'm looking for, and I don't want to pay too much for something that isn't a big upgrade on quality.

It's a cool combo that has served me well but now I'm out of inputs and outputs. Right now I have a Firestudio Mobile from 2009 when I first started getting into home producing and I eventually got a Mackie Universal Control surface as a MIDI controller.
